MUST-KNOW Websites/resources/services For NYC/ Manhattan?
Aug 12, 2008 by Velocity | Posted in New York City
This is a query to the hardcore New Yorkers.
Every major city has little local services or related websites that borrow things easier for it's resident.
Over the years I've discovered many for my current city. For everything from subway mapping, to a beadroll of the best and cheapest shops, to unknown deliver services, and a website that lists the kindest places to take pictures (weird and random, I know). These things make life easier on residents (ie. not tourists).
But now I'm pathetic.
To Manhattan and very soon. I'm sure that there must would like to know if there are any such websites and services (not large ones like craigslist, etc...but predetermined to NYC).
Gasoline Prices: Why Not Start A "Manhattan Project" To Find Alternatives To Gasoline Fired Engine?
Apr 05, 2008 by Mortaro | Posted in Engineering
"Manhattan obligation" to develop alternatives to gasoline engine: get scientists, engineers, inventors together in one occur with necessary funds and resources. Either privately funded (Gates, Murdoch, Trump, Buffett?), or authority funded.
The object we are still using gasoline is not as nepharious as some like to think.
First of all, gasoline provides more energy per gallon of encourage than just about any other substance around.
Electric cars still essentially use fossuil fuel, and not as efficiently!! If all the cars in use today were moving, and we all plugged them in to recharge each day, the power grid would collapse almost immediately. We don't have enough generating stations. And if we did, most still overcook coal, oil or natural gas. On top of that, only about 60% of the electrical energy produced by a plant reaches the owner, the rest is eaten up as copper loss trying to move it around the grid!
Also, the infrastructure to transport gasoline and turn over it to users was developed and perfected over many years. It is easy to transport and deliver.
Gasoline provides and efficent method of storing drive in a easily deliverd way. Problem is, there really is not many better ways to provide transportation, apart from of eliminating personal vehicles and builing more and better public transportation.
Even ethanol has issues. Raises premium of corn and is not easily tranported via pipelines.
If a better energy source was discovered, big transaction would be all over it trying to produce it and make money from it, not bury it away!

What Does An Apartment Have To Have To Make It Legal In Manhattan?
Jan 24, 2007 by jaroussie | Posted in Law & Ethics
Does anyone have an authorized resource of what an apartment needs to be legal in Manhattan? I'm concerned because I don't have a stove fixture or a bathroom venture, and I'm charged a fixed rate for utilities (probably not metered separately). What is an apartment required to have to be right, and what actions should I take (within reason) if it isn't? I really like this place, but I'd like them to add some amenities in.
You proposition beyond the shadow of a doubt would be better directed to a City buildling inspector or the Dept of Buildings. I do know from my mortgage an legitimate estate experience in New Jersey that some of the considerations are a separate entrance, and separate cooking and making up facilities. If a dwelling unit has these it can be considered a separate residential unit, as opposed to a old lady/daughter arrangement. A qualified apartment or the building which has passed inspection would also have the appropriate certificate of occupancy, which would replace out, among other things, the legal number of occupants in a dwelling unit.
If your apartment has no stove and no connections for a gas or thrilling stove, this may be an issue.
The best source for your answer really would be the New York City intercession with the proper jurisdiction, and the dept of Buildings is a good place to start. You might also find information from the NYC Split Guidelines Board.
