Where To Live In Manhattan...apartment Rentals...?
Apr 18, 2009 by dvzman314 | Posted in Renting & Real Estate
My mate and I (both in our late 20's) are moving to Manhattan for the first time. I'm trying to find a place to rent for about $1800-$2300 (preferably a faithful 1 bedroom). That being said, we're just not sure on where to live. We've heard Chelsea and East/West Village are attractive, but we've also heard we should live in the Financial District or Midtown. Any recommendations on where to live? What brokers/companies to reach out to for helpers? Thanks!
Craigslist will give you 10000000 listings by brokers. I'd go preferred to the listings of OWNER "owned" apartments. Forget locators/brokers

Currently in California and heart-rending to NYC in July. Looking for an apartment to rent in Manhattan. Will have only 2 weeks in July to look for it. Whats the best way to go about it without using a stockjobber (expensive!)?
Do searches for "no fee" apartments
Go through the classifieds of the villagevoice.com and nytimes.com
Be fussy about using "apartment share" services where a company will find you a roommate, many times you can be paired with total psychos or convicted criminals. Many apartment sharing services do not do any sort of background check whatsoever.
I'm accepted to be in Manhattan for about a week and would like to rent a short-term apartment instead of a hotel. Any suggestions of a beneficial place to look?
