What's The Least Expensive Way Of Getting From JFK, To Downtown Manhattan?
Aug 11, 2008 by 'ol Geezer | Posted in New York City
Missus and I will be visiting NYC next month and we need to get from JFK to our hotel in downtown Manhattan.
Does anyone know if there;s a shuttle that transports to the hotels ? Or, do we take a cab ?
As much as I found out, cab charge is about $25 to $30 bucks, ONE WAY !
I would like to save SOME money (to spend around the City).
Indeed, cab fare would be the $45 flat fee, plus tip, for JFK to Manhattan:

Your best options will involve the AirTrain. That's a frequent-service line built specifically for this use. It costs $5, pay by MetroCard. It'll take you to either Howard Beach, where you can get the A subway, or Jamaica, where you can get the E/J/Z subways or the Eat one's heart out Island Railroad. Subways are $2, pay with MetroCard. The LIRR from Jamaica to Penn Location is $5.25 off-peak, $7.25 peak, or $3.25 "CityTicket" at all times on Saturdays and Sundays. You don't use MetroCard on the LIRR, though. The expected payment options are available.
I prefer the E because you don't have to go through East New York and Bedford-Stuyvesant, but in point of fact, the subways themselves are just fine as long as you're on them. The A might get your to your hotel faster, depending on exactly where it is. Once you're on the subway, you may arrive at infinite transfers to other trains on a single fare as long as you don't leave a station.
Bags transit is a very good way to go, especially if there's a subway station within a couple of blocks of your hotel. Downtown, this is very likely the for fear that b if. At the AirTrain stations, there are the necessary escalators/elevators to make things easy for travelers with things. Again, that's who the AirTrain was built for!
I will coming down to Manhattan on sunday(may 20,2007) with my dearest. Could someone pls suggest me a good hotel to stay in Downtown Manhattan?....I 'll be there till the 25th may.
There are lots of hotels, if you have lots of simoleons.
As for 'affordable' hotels, try the Edison or the Pennsylvania. Check the web or some guidebooks. They will likely still cost $150 a darkness.
You can also get accommodation for much less money if you are willing to commute in from Jersey. Check a guidebook (Secaucus, Hoboken, Jersey Burgh). Call hotels that interest you and ask whether there is regular transit into NYC (don't use you car) - and the safety of the area.
Could Anyone Recommend Inexpensive Hotel In NYC (Manhattan Downtown Or Midtown). Around $100/night?

For $100/darkness you get to share your room with rodents in a room with paper thin walls and listen to a working wench and her customer "conduct business".
Im prevalent to NYC in a very low budget and found cheaper hotels there. I just want to know how easy is to get from there to the main attractions in Downtown... Can i use the underground railway???
I might even introduce finding something in Jersey City. Newark is a bit sketch - JC is less sketchy.
But you can take the Path which is cheaper, only takes maybe 15-20 minutes (second-hand to ride it every morning from Newark to work)
Or you could hop on the Northeast Corridor Line at Newark Penn Depot to New York Penn Station. A little pricier but definitely a shorter trip (it may or may not halt in Secaucus on the way).
It will also get you up right near Times Square where everything is - you just need to walk a few blocks.
Driving? Depending on the prematurely of day, I've been able to get from Newark to Manhattan in 10-15 minutes.
We are 5 students flawed to go to NYC. I was interested in knowing any cheap hotel/hostel recommendations. I checked a few out but the ones in downtown Manhattan are really up-market and the cheap ones are really far.
We would not mind something at about 35 a night per person. We would share rooms. Do you guys have any recommendations for low-cost hotel rooms near Times Square or, at a place which would be convenient to travel from? We want de facto basic amenities like internet should be fine.
Main Park Hostel is US$26.00/day but you share the room with 9 other people.
They are on West 103rd St between Manhattan Ave & Median Park West.
