my conceal has to move to hartford soon because of work and i am trying to figure out whether it would be feasible for me to commute 4 days a week from hartford to uptown manhattan? what is cheaper? driving or visible transport? what public transport options are available? anyone know? the last option is for us to do long interval, as i cant currently leave my job in NYC...
any help would be appreicated.
thanks
Take Amtrak. Otherwise you will hit dash hour in 5 different cities on the way.... that's just a horrific daily commute.
If you wish to save money, take Amtrak from Hartford to New Haven, then switch to Metro North. On a exercise at least you can relax... and you won't hit traffic. Probably cheaper as well.
How Bad Of A Neighborhood Is The Area Around 207th Street And Sherman Ave. In Uptown Manhattan?
May 19, 2008 by Someone | Posted in New York City
-Also, is it considered part of Inwood or Washington Heights?
please counter-statement if you actually know the neighborhood (aka I don't need wikipedia citations, I can look those up myself).
-is the neighborhood bad?
-is it chancy to walk to/take the train at Night from there (11pm-3am)?
-how dangerous is it to go there in the afternoon (8pm-ish)
what if I take a taxi instead of the staff, is it still dangerous?
The district may be Inwood, but the part you're talking about is really a "spillover" of Washington Heights with the Dominican populace as the majority.
The one thing about that area....I ALWAYS hear noise (Spanish music blasting, people yelling all over the lodgings), even that late at night to which, yes it is dangerous walking to either the "1" train or the "A" queue (though the "A" may be somewhat "safer" being the last stop and all with a train waiting). During the afternoon or about 8-ish, there are people all over the berth so it isn't as dangerous.
If you have to find an area in Inwood, everything west of Broadway (heading to the Hudson River) is still attractive decent. It's anything east of Broadway that's crazy.

What Cross-town Streets In Manhattan Are The Uptown And Downtown Perimeters Of "the Village?"?
Sep 21, 2008 by john b | Posted in New York City
and when people refer to the village, are they referring to simply Greenwich village or also east/west village?
and what is the general character of east, west and greenwich?
It's on the whole accepted that the northern boundary of the Village is 14th St and the southern boundary is Houston St.
Usually, when you be told the term "The Village" the West Village is intended but sometimes the area around NYU (Washington Honest Park, Fifth Ave)is referred to as just "The Village." Generally speaking, no one refers to the East Village as precisely "The Village".
Up until roughly the early 1960's the area which is now known as the East Village was considered the Diminish East Side. This northern extremity of the Lower East Side started to develop it's own identity, an unanimity of counter-culturalism and non conformity, even more so than Greenwich Village, and thus, the terms East and West Village were born.
