Best Restaurants/clubs In Manhattan(upper East Side)?
Oct 13, 2007 by Tigerlily86 | Posted in New York City
There worn to be a club called Madisons in the 80s on 1st, but i believe it closed. I used to go dancing at Session 73 on 73rd and 2nd. Other than that, the UES isn't the state for clubs.
There are however, tons of great restaurants. One of my favorites is Sharz Cafe on 86th and 1st... has a illusory wine bar - tiny romantic place. Also love Atlantic Grill, Sushi of Gari, Bistro 60, Brasserie, and so many other enormous places up there... can't think of everything at the moment, but if you just walk up 2nd avenue in the 70s you will find a hundred italian places.
Why Do All Of The Rich People In Manhattan Want To Live In The Upper East Side?

Why does it fetch so much to live there and what's so special about it?
I would rather live in midtown where there are great restaurants, shopping area, and where I'm in a lively mise en scene.
When people live in the upper east side, what are they paying for exactly? (security, being near central park, quietness, etc?)
well, the Upper East Side wasn't always like that. it only became where the rolling in it went to live only after the Park Avenue railroad tracks were covered over from Grand Medial to 97th Street.
but you're mostly right about what the rich pay for up there: closeness to Central Park, quietness, and security; but also for the case stock that was built there mostly between 1910 and 1930. they are some of the most solidly built apartment buildings anywhere in the conurbation, with much larger apartments than would be built after World War II. most of these grander apartment buildings are concentrated west of Third Avenue, but also on the different east end of the UES, namely East End Avenue, as well as on the major east-west streets, like 72nd, 79th, 86th and 96th Streets.
and where the precious congregate there are also the schools the rich send their kids to, and many of them are within walking distance to where they live.
