My boyfriend and I are effective to New York next week and we are looking to go to a rooftop bar with a good view, somewhere that's not too relaxed but not for the elite! Also, we would like to go to a precarious restaurant one night with a view of Brooklyn bridge and manhattan, I assume this would have to be in Brooklyn. Somewhere nice that we can get dressed up to go to! Any suggestions?
Well, arguably, the most popular restaurant with a spectacular view in New York City is the world-famous Rainbow Margin, high atop the buildings at Rockefeller Plaza.
Good luck, and the link below is to their website...

Photographer Looking For Rooftop/skyline Views Of Manhattan?

I've seen NYC from the Empire Declare Building and the sadly lost WTC. I've also been to the Met rooftop garden. I hear Rockefeller center now has a new observation deck, but I'd uncommonly like a chance to see the NY skyline from a more uncommon location, especially at night. Perhaps a bar/restaurant where photography is allowed. Your recommendations would be appreciated.
Take the L queue one stop to Williamsburg. This puts you in Brooklyn opposite 14th Street, Manhattan. Most of the buildings are industrial and have roof top access. My pal lives there and every year we have the best seats in the house to view the Forth of July fire works. If you give me your email talk I will send you some snap shots of Manhattan's sky line.
Another great location is Vernon Blvd, Queens. You'll find a profound pier here opposite 33rd Street, Manhattan. I don't know how you can gain roof access (maybe the Citi Bank has an sentiment deck????), but this is another great location.
Both areas are quite and will give you peace to concentrate on your art.
have a gander at at Manhattan's newly opened rooftop bar and lounge, Upstairs at The Kimberly Hotel (one of New York Munitions dump's top Summer 2010 ...
