Restaurant In Manhattan Perfect For Romantic Birthday Reservation?

I'm looking for a adroit restaurant to take my boyfriend on his birthday, just the two of us. I'm not picky about the cousine. Italian, French or Indian would be keen. Something romantic and I don't mind expensive. I need a place that will take reservations and actually have a table waiting for us (in the over and done with I've waited half an hour after my reservation for a table to open up and it put a damper on our anniversary). Any suggestions? His birthday is a baby over a month away.
I thought March Restaurant on 58th was closed now.
Le Bernadin on West 51st Concourse between Sixth and Seventh - the food is incredible.

Another romantic restaurant is One if By Debark on Barrow Street in Greenwich Village - live music - it's a beautiful space in an old freight house - really lovely, but the food at Le Bernadin is better.
