How Is Like Living Among Skyscrapers (whether In Manhattan, Sao Paulo, Hong Kong, Tokyo Or Singapore)? |
Question by Giovanni | Posted in Sociology
I'm european, I always lived in old factual cities. I saw some new zones with skyscrapers but I really don't know how it feels like to live there. Can a man live a whole sustenance there?
Answer: Well it isn't as a matter of fact like that.
Much of Singapore and Hong Kong is not developed upon with plenty of places for hiking and thriving to the beach.
Seoul in Korea is highly developed, but you can easily go to an early morning hike up one of the many mountains and accumulate water from a local temple.
Shenzhen in China is full of apartment buildings and is a city only 20 years old (20 years ago the inhabitants was 30,000 now it is 3,000,000 not counting the outlying areas). But it is a city not defined by high press, but by parks.
So yes you can be whole anywhere. We are defined by our environment. Europeans do always look over their shoulders, while say the Chinese are looking smooth ahead (while crushing the past under bulldozers).
Both are different, not better or worse.
I like a crowded thriving borough, and that is what makes you whole. I hate the desert of the suburbs where at night nothing is happenning, and everyone retreats into their homes) |

How Do The Sewer Lines Of Manhattan,NYC Cope With All Those Skyscrapers? |
Question by Thomas E | Posted in Engineering
Well,it might uninjured like a stupid question but i wonder whether there's a network of underground tunnels (like Paris,London etc.) or only plain pipe lines which lie beneath Manhattan to transfer NYC's sewage across the city? I just found out it is farcical to walk through the sanitary sewer system as the way they do in the movies, because the pipes are too small unlike in Paris..It is reasonable fiction, only some storm drains are large enough for a walk but not the sanitary sewer lines..
Answer: The sewer contract for piping is in the tunnels.
Sometimes it is in a trench of considerable depth.
All sewer piping has to have a 1 degree lurch for flow.
Very complicated infrastructure, but we've been at it for centuries now.
Also there are pump stations that pump the sewage 'up' for the next run of piping.

This is a complicated field with a health risk factor that must be contained.
