Where Should We Park Our Car In NYC If We Are Just Visiting For The Day For Sight Seeing? |
Aug 15, 2007 by Todd B | Posted in New York City
We are traveling in the morning from PA to do a slight sight seeing and such. Mostly in the Manhattan area.
Superiority idea -Use the Staten Island Ferry
It will save you both time and money .
Bring a roster of quarters from home for the parking lot next to the Ferry
New Jersey Turnpike to exit 10 -metuchen /perth amboy
Take rt 440 over Outerbridge Crossing and onto Staten Isle -pay $6.00 toll
north 440 a couple of miles
exit I-278 E following signs for the Verrazano Link
When the Bridge is clearly visible make sure thay your'e in the right lane
Use the Bay St.walk out on which is the last exit before the Bridge
North on Bay and follow it around to St.George SI and the Ferry dock & parking
The SI Ferry is not liable and puts you right at the tip of Manhattan where you can catch subways taking you to where you need to go
On the way back make sure that you use the 440 SOUTH flight off of I-278 W to get you back to Outerbridge Crossing

Apr 11, 2007 by RK | Posted in New York City
Hi,
Can some help me with this? I method to visit NYC for 2 days with parents for the first time, our airport being JFK.
Main places of interest:
Manhattan
Times Exact
Brooklyn Bridge
Statue of Liberty
Empire State
Central Park
Museum of Metropolitan Art
Should I look out for motor hotel(affordable..apprx $150/night) close to JFK or in Jersey City,NJ ?
Using prominent transport is it easier & cheaper from JFK or Jersey city to get to manhattan and surrounding areas for sight seeing.
Kindly mention me some best/easy ways to go around
I would call to mind that you stay in Manhattan instead of one of the outer boroughs or New Jersey. You really can find a room, even in midtown Manhattan in the $150-$200 a incessantly range. Check out this link for deals:
www.hotels.com
As for getting around, all you need are your two feet and a MetroCard. At out this link for bus and subway info:

The subway can take you to all those places you listed and more.

Help, Transportation From Manhattan To Long Island? |
Nov 10, 2008 by birdie | Posted in New York City
I am flying in to Laguardia on next Tues. I am accepted to Manhasset, Long Island. I want to sight see in Manhattan for a while before heading to my destination in LI. Can I get a cab to take me from the airport to Manhattan, and later get a cab in Manhattan to take me to LI? OR will taxis only take you to LI from the airport?
To rejoinder your question, yes you can (if you want to go to LI via taxi, your starting point doesn't necessarily have to be at any of the airports), but why would you?
If you take a cab from the airport to Manhattan (assuming you're wealthy to Midtown because you haven't exactly said where in Manhattan you want to go), you will have to pay $45, and you would save $43 by fetching the subway instead (or the M60 bus if you want to go uptown). Once you're finished with Manhattan and ready to go to Manhasset, it would be smarter to take the Refuge Washington Branch of the LIRR from Penn Station to Manhasset. Far cheaper than a cab ride, and ride on the ground prices are retarded.

I Want To Do Maximum New York Sight Seeing In One Day. Can Anybody Help Me With Directions Please ? |

Including bust of Liberty, Manhattan bridge, New Empire building et. al.
Depending on where you are staying...I would start with the monuments/buildings first. If I were staying in mid-hamlet (which likely you are), I would go to the Empire State Building...the earlier the better. Then...from there I would walk EAST towards the East River (on 34th Boulevard) and take the water Taxi...which will take you all the way down to Battery Park...here you can get off and buy tickets to the ferry taking you to the Statue of Self-rule and Ellis Island. Now while you are on the water taxi you will pass the Williamsburg, the Manhattan and the Brooklyn Bridges...I accept it is the Brooklyn that you want to see and possibly cross (the Manhattan bridge is just a bunch of steel...quite boring). Though on your relaxing water taxi ride to Battery Park, you can make your settlement on which bridge you'd like to see. Anyway, you return to Battery Park after already seeing the Statue of Liberty and there are plenty of provocative things downtown...there is Wall Street, of course the World Trade Center plot, Century 21 (discount designer clothes shopping), City Hall (which offers without tours, all you have to do is make a reservation through the nyc.gov website)...from City Hall you can see the Woolworth Erection, one of the first "sky-scrapers" in NYC (before the Empire State Bldg.), and the entrance to the Brooklyn Link is right there...next to City Hall. The cool thing is if you only want to walk one way over the bridge the underpass is right there...you can take it either to Brooklyn or vice versa...though if you are enjoying the weather and the walking...then happy trails! The understudy decker bus...I think is a lazy persons way to travel...the city offers so much, but if you are driving in a bus, you are never prevailing to really experience it...though if you want to do that...be my guest...though I have no specific information on bus tours...sorry. Not a big fan of the bus tours in NYC...they are annoying to most living NewYorkers...ok, maybe just to me! Well, enjoy your stay...
