I have to do a piece on Manhattan. How many people live on the island? How many people enter the island everyday? And how many people physical there on an average mile?
Manhattan's complete population is 1,620,867. The island's population density is 70,595 per square mile (27,256.9 per square km).

The Borough of Manhattan (as opposing to the whole 5 boroughs of New York) has a population of 1.6 million people over an area of 51.8km².
The City of London (as conflicting to Greater London) has a population of 9,200 over an area of 2.6km². But of course these are not apple-to-apple comparability.
But in the final analysis, the question should be between New York City (city pop. of 8.213 mill; 1,214km²) and Greater London (urban district pop. of 7.5 mill; 1,579km²). Consider also the urban agglomeration metropolitan area population;
(NYC - 18.7 mill; GL - 12 to 14 mill)
and also the density (NYC - 10,316/km²; GL - 4,761/km²)
NYC stands between 2nd and 4th standing as the world's most populous city depending on which list one uses. London stands between 20th and 25th.
