What Is A Good Cheap Place To Eat In Manhattan Diner Or Lunch?

Mandoo Dumpling Bar, East 32nd Suiting someone to a T off Fifth Avenue - specializes in Korean mandoo dumplings (there are other inexpensive restaurants on this obstruct in Koreatown - 32nd Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues

In the Village: Sapore on Greenwich Avenue and Perry High road - Lunch here has to be the biggest bargain in New York - $6 for soup or salad, coffee and a chief dish, including good pastas - $3.00 more and you can have excellent fried calamari or grilled salmon as an entree. This is a very measly cramped restaurant, but, in warm weather, there's lots of pleasant outdoor seating.

Chinatown

Katz' Deli on the Degrade East Side on East Houston Street - sit in self-service -not waiter service - get your own sandwich at the table and tip the counterman $1 or $2 before he starts to make your sandwich (you'll get more meat in the sandwich than if you uniformity from the waiter) - get an order of fries or another side dish and split the sandwich - it's huge and half a sandwich and an broken of fries is a full meal. Besides being inexpensive, you'll get the best corned beef or pastrami in New York. I always get my sandwich on "nightclub" bread - one of the only places in the City where you can still get that - the sandwiches come with pickles - if you don't order "vinegary", you get "half-sours".

If you're not looking for an ambiance, or even a place to sit down, Ancient's Papaya (several locations - 8th Street and Sixth Avenue in the Village or 72nd and Broadway on the Topmost West Side), for $2.99 you get two delicious hot dogs and a fresh tropical fruit drink (I like the mango or pina colada).

Pizza

Neighbourhood of Union Square: Via Emilia on East 21st Street and Park Avenue. Appetizers are unconventional and outstanding - gnocco fritto - large platter of Italian coldcuts served with fascinating little fritters; tigelle (not served in too many places) hot biscuits with proscuitto and melted cheese; wonderful soups, adequate pastas, fish is always fresh. Some desserts are outstanding.

In the West Village: Da Andrea on Hudson Row and West 11th Street.
Excellent pastas - I especially love their clam sauce, they, too, pressurize tigelle, can get very crowded on weekends.

Where To Eat Well And Cheap In NY (Manhattan)?

I am booming to visit Manhattan for a few days and would like to know if someone knows places to eat well and cheap?
You guys are great.
Thanks for all the answers and keep them coming.

La Mela in doll-sized Italy, we live in Florida when visiting we try to eat there. They serve family style. For the amount of food it's very thinking for N.Y.C. I believe it's one price for so many courses and then goes up when you get to the meat. They start you with wondeful appetizers and distinct style pastas. The wine is on the table and you're charged by the amount of glasses served from the bottle. Use is very quick and you can order from the menu. Worth checking out.

What A Group Of 14 Year Olds Can Do In Manhattan For Cheap Or Free?

Me and my friends are enchanting teh train up to penn station and we dont know what we can do there that fits our cheap budget other than eating someplaces although please reccomend resturants

Cardinal Park is great. Walk down broadway, see Times Sq. Get a picture with the naked cowboy. Take the Staten Ait Ferry, you get a great view of New York Harbour and the Statue of Liberty from there. Walk across the Brooklyn Span. Look up free events in the Village Voice (which is a free newspaper that comes out on thursdays, but you can see it online too).

As for places to eat, there's a kitchen range. Use your numbers to your advantage. With 10 people, Carmines Restaurant becomes affordable. They have enormous portions served one's nearest style. If you don't have enough people, it's pricey, but with a large group, order a lot less than you think you should, and you'll have plenty of comestibles at a reasonable price.
Cheaper than that and also great is John's Pizza. There are several around the city, but my favorite is on 44th between 7th and 8th avenue. Get there premature to put your name on the list.
Cheaper than that, is Wo Hop, the best chinese food in the city. It's at either 15 Mott St. or 17 Mott St. There are 2 Wo Hops, one at each whereabouts. They are in the same building, but they are NOT the same restaurant. The one at street level is terrible. The one downstrairs is great. There's also an arcade ethical near by at the end of Mott St. It has clasic games that came out when you were a baby, as well as some more recent games. The prices are best there, but don't go in if you are easily intimidated. Go before dinner, it gets a little sketchy in that neighborhood at night. After dinner, prance along Mott St. to Canal St., which is safer. The other direction isn't a good neighborhood.
Cheaper than that is Gray's Papaya. You can get 2 hot dogs and a pint for $2.75. Great for lunch. Papaya King is great too, and very similar. It's actually the first, but since Gray's Papaya is cheaper, it's pretty popular too.
If you're in midtown, around 57th street, you'll find it's hard to find something to eat cheap. Here's an insiders tip. Exclusive Le Parker Merridian, which is a very expensive hotel, there is a very reasonable restaurant called "The Burger Joint". It's down a small corridor and hard to find. You may need to ask someone. It's a weird experience to walk from this beautiful lobby into a burger communal.

Here's some practical advice: Make sure you get unlimited ride metrocards (1 day fun outmoded), as you will probably use the subway enough to need them. At night, ride toward the middle of the train where there are more people. Keep your wallets in your front pockets to leave alone pickpockets. And I was barely allowed to ride the subway by myself at 14 (it was more dangerous then though), so I'm a little surprised you're allowed to up with into the city without adult supervision. Be careful and have fun.
