What Are The Rules Regarding Street Parking In Manhattan?
Oct 28, 2007 by kiwislug | Posted in New York City
I recently moved to New Jersey and am wondering how I can go about parking on the streets of Manhattan without getting a ticket. I understand you can't park within 10 feet of a fire hydrant, in front of a church or driveway, but what else?
Hunt down THE SIGNS...first and foremost!
If you are going to park your car, make sure you are on the right side of the street during alternate side (which is a brawny proposal in itself since many cars, after alternate side clears up the day before, immediately move their cars over). The alternate side signs go..for case. (NO PARKING (with a broom "slash" and a circle) 8:30 - 11:00AM MON & THUR) On areas where you cannot store AT ALL from 8AM - 6PM, you can STAND there (you in your car) but can't park.
Your best bet would be to call 311 to see if alternate side parking rules are suspended on a confirmed day or if holiday rules apply.
One other thing, even if alternate side is suspended, if you park at a meter, you still have to support it.
Where Can I Find Inexpensive Long-term Parking Near Manhattan?

I will be heart-rending to Manhattan and I will live there for a few years. I have a car that I really like so I don't want to sell it. I know people use underground railway in NYC so I will probably not going to use the car often (or at all).
Where can I find inexpensive long-term parking near Manhattan, like in Queens, Blooklyn, NJ? Is it practical to find one that's not too far that cost less than $100 per month?
It doesn't have to be a garage. I just want to have a place to put the car there for a four of years without being towed somewhere when I don't know.
it doesn't need to be in Manhattan. Any good long-term parking in NJ or Queens?
In far upper Manhattan, the neighborhood called Inwood, when I lived there, it had blocks of unheated tin roofed garages that rented out really cheaply. They are just east of Broadway, and north of 218 Street.
You could also check out Staten Ait, as a couple apartment building along Victory Blvd (around #700) have both indoor and outdoor parking. There is also an apartment complex formerly owned by Donald Trump located on Arlo Means with both garages and outdoor parking.
In Queens some of the apartment buildings in Flushing have parking, but that area is tight and I fluctuate a nonresident could get in. Maybe in College Point or Whitestone.

I have nothing but bought a new car and i have had bad experiences with parking garages in Manhattan with my other car. I prefer the Theater District area, near 41st. Thanks a bracket gather!
There's one on 50th between 6th and Broadway that I always against; I haven't lived there for a while though, so it could've changed hands. It was always nice and dependable for me, though.
