Trendy And Inexpensive Hotel In Midtown Manhattan?
Sep 08, 2007 by erica | Posted in New York City
My beau and I are staying in Manhattan with my mom and were hoping to find a relatively nice, trendy and clean hotel for a two night stay. We were looking into places like The Pod, but if anyone knows anything improve, let me know! We were hoping not to pay more then $185/night. Hostels are fine as long as we have our own bathroom!
For $185 you can impede at Sheraton Manhattan, Sheraton NY, or Park Central. If you go to these website, you can get an idea.
Can You Recommend A Nice Hotel Suite Suitable For A Group Of 20 Or So In Midtown Manhattan?

We're interested in holding a birthday social gathering in Midtown Manhattan on November 21st and a nice hotel suite with a view might be ideal. Would anyone know of a nice place that would not be too costly? I realize that's a tall order. Thank you.
If you mangy THIS coming November 21st, you better get moving. November and December are peak times in NYC for shopping and hotels post up fast.
As a former travel agent, I'd urge you to either contact the hotel of your choice directly to see what they can offer and the other voice is to use HotelPlanner.com: http://www.hotelplanner.com
They specialize in groups. If nothing else you can see which hotels have availability and what they can offer as far as perks (for archetype 1 free room for every 20 booked). HotelPlanner.com is reputable and very helpful - and it's a open service and there is no obligation to book.
How Much Will It Cost To Take A Cab From Newark Airport To My Hotel In Midtown Manhattan?
Apr 12, 2007 by marion_luke | Posted in New York City
It's the Courtyard New York Manhattan/Midtown East - 866 Third Avenue. It's on Third Ave. between East 52nd and 53rd St.
Im not accepted to give you our rates, that way Im not accused of solicitaiton. LOL
"From Newark Airport to Manhattan, the taxi fare is a set fee plus unembellished trip tolls. From Newark Airport to
Battery Park to West 34th Street: $40.00
West 35th Drive to West 58th Street: $45.00
West 59th Street to West 109th Street: $50.00
West 110th Row to West 185th Street: $55.00
North of 185th Street: $60.00
New York/LaGuardia Airport: $65.00
New York/Kennedy Airport: $75.00
There is an additional commission of $5.00 for all destinations on the east side of Manhattan between Battery Park and 185th Street"
These are the rates for the Newark Airport Hack stands of Yellow or White taxis run by Newark NJ & Elizabeth NJ Taxi Commissions. Tolls into Manhattan are $6 to write Manhattan only.
So, it would be $40 + $6 tolls = $46 to go to Battery Park during regular hours.
In rush hour, which ususally starts around 3pm, it would be $40 + $6 tolls + $5 surcharge = $51. The tip is not included in these totals.
Successful to JFK or LaGuardia you would be charged $15 in Round trip tolls, plus the surcharge if you were traveling during pell-mell hour. I know some folks would say take the 59th st bridge but NJ cabs will not want to fight traffic wealthy to 59th st when they can take you straight across town to from the Lincoln Tunnel to the Midtown Tunnel or accross the GWB to the Triboro. $9 globe trip to cross the Midtown Tunnel or Triboro Bridge.
"Taxis also operate from the airport at triplex rates based on destination. From the City of New York, fares are set by New York City's Taxi and Limousine Commission. From New York Diocese, the taxi fare shall be the metered rate plus a surcharge of $15.00 increased by the cost of round trip tolls. This is approximately $40 to $75 depending on the rigid origin. Newark Liberty is the only exception to the rule that a New York City taxi driver may cast-offs to take a passenger to any destination outside the five boroughs."
A taxi from NJ can pick you up from JFK or LaGuardia by selection only. Rates vary. I suggest calling companies in towns closest to NYC like: Fort Lee, Secaucus, Jersey Burg, Hoboken, or Teaneck. Chances are, if the company has a drop off at one of those airports you can make an appointment to get picked up around the stop off time.
You can go to the following sites to find a taxi/cab in NJ:
Due type these keywords: taxi + name of town in NJ
As far as going into NJ towns from Manhattan, I believe you can call a NJ cab to pick you up by place only since NYC cabbies can refuse to take you anywhere other than Newark Airport in NJ. The TLC only prohibits cabs without the TLC medallion from picking up passengers on the drive who hail a cab.
There are also some things to look for on a cab at Newark Airport to make sure they are licensed:

OXY Drive
OXX
OL Limousine (not DL which is the Organ Donor plate)
From The Holiday Inn Express Hotel, Midtown Manhattan -- Recommended Supermarket?

Is there a healthy supermarket or grocery store near this hotel that is either within walking distance or easily accessed via worldwide transportation?
After wroking in Mahattan for a hundred of years. The three Supermarkets that I would recommend would be Gristedes, Food Emporium or D'Agistino's...
Here are some store locators...or you could ask the front desk.
