Reading with Patinka Kopec! I love Ms. Kopec! She is such a great character and her studio is full of amazing musicians. Coupled with you can either live in Pittsburgh or New York City?
I was coached in chamber music by Ms. Kopec and my violist was one of her prized students. She taught me so much about music and was adept shed light on ideas I was often confused about or had no clue on. The help she provided was absolutely dazzling and helped to life my duo (viola/piano) to a world class level. she has many connections as well which will forbear you to find gigs but for the future for orchestra, teaching positions and performance opportunities. If you and her get a long very well and you are one of her hardest working students, she may promote you to teach at MSM Prep division! Many of her students were first when it came to looking for Prep Division teachers. I can only require of great things about Ms. Kopec. I was friends with many of her students and they were all amazing musicians! all played with but for technique on violin or viola and they were all highly musical intelligent players. To get into Ms. Kopec's studio is an honor and I approve working with her! She is one of America's top violin teachers, highly experienced, versed in all styles, a monstrous chamber musician and is a lot of fun!
Plus, it's the NYC, the greatest city in the world. No where else in the world can you go hear a consortium performance, orchestra, opera, solo concert, new music, jazz, ballet all in the same night any unendingly! And the shopping, food and museums! Greatest city in the world! MSM is an awesome school as well! Excellent orchestral program if you are interested in that and Ms. Kopec will certainly help your orchestral playing! But the professors are awesome! World renowned!

I yearn for to major in violin performance.
Yes It is a recognized and well-regarded music school society-wide.
I attended that school for voice in the 50's (I am 77 now)
and at that time already had an excellent reputation.
I am assuming you grasp how to read music and can play at
first reading any composition presented to you as a test of your sight reading skills.
They most likely will not consider any application where the
person does not already had instruction in the instrument.
Provide letter(s) of exhortation by either teacher or
alumni of the college to enhance your chances for an invitation to audition.
If you plan to suit as a post-graduate student, Also letter(s)
of recommendation from your violin teacher(s) will be a must.
Remember if your attentiveness stick-to-it-iveness is accepted is for a "live audition" with the faculty division of your chosen thingy.
Being accepted for an audition does not warranty you being admitted to the school
(but your are already 50% there!).
Also if you plan to go as an undergraduate you will require to
fullfill all undegraduate requirements for a Bachellor's degree.
Your chosen specialty won't become prominent (as far as
classes) until your lower(3rd) year in college.
Last item that you should be aware-The cost of lining in NYC.
I don't know the cost of living on-campus but I am non-specified that
is going to be less expensive than living elsewhere in NYC.
You will also need to apply to live in a campus facility.
When I was attending the school I lived at tranquil so I did not
have that expense other than public transportation.
Cost of housing in NYC (unless you go to the YMCA or YWCA) is prevailing to run you around 25K to 30K a year but many students off-campus often share a small flat to cut cost.
I wish you the foremost of luck in your violin studies.
It is a beautiful instrument and one that offer the most opportunities for a good sentiment (unless you become a world-class soloist) in symphony orchestras.
What Should I Do If I Want To Go To The Manhattan School Of Music?
Nov 15, 2009 by DancerDee | Posted in Higher Education (University +)
I'm in 8th declivity right now and have been playing violin for 5 years so in 12th it'll be my 9th year what should I do until then to get really good? What else should I do at all, period?
Learn by heart all scales and arpeggios, play in front of as many people as you can - people you know, and strangers - (preferably by thought) to get you ready for auditions. Play all styles of music (Baroque to 20th Century), both lyrical and technical - every in the good old days b simultaneously you practice should be with a metronome, and a tuner to help w/ intonation. Good pitch and rhythm is fundamental, also play musically (it'll help to have a good private teacher, perhaps someone who plays in a local orchestra). Hmm..what else can I intend of...oh, start piano lessons if you can. Just practice your butt off - get good at sight-reading (get a few irate-up or etude books, and play through a new piece every day to get used to sight-reading well).
I hope that helps! For now, legitimate practice and get better...once you get closer to college auditions, then start memorizing music that you'd use in an audition and gamble for a lot of people. It'll be a good idea to also join a local youth symphony and play in limited competitions (so you can get input from judges). Having a private teacher will help too.
Wares luck!
Does Anybody Have Any Pictures Of Manhattan School Of Music?
Feb 17, 2009 by Miki | Posted in Classical
Not the case, but the inside... does anybody have pictures of the classrooms, the halls, the people? Thanks.
I did that, but all they gave me was the shell.
Haha, I agree with you all it IS a dingy place, but I need pictures for my power point giving about MSM... Oh well, it's okay, I'll take pictures on Saturday
Ask them to send you a surely catalog. It has some of the photos that you seek, but - WHY???? I know of several places that are gorgeous, but there is precious teeny-weeny music education going on there - and places that are DUMPY - and brilliant. Heck, I got my MM degree in a building that had theretofore been a Cadillac dealership in Boston, and the place SHOOK every time the subway went thru (Boston University).
Juilliard Or Manhattan School Of Music: Which One Is Better?
Jul 11, 2009 by musicgrley1324 | Posted in Performing Arts
I be acquainted with that most of you are going to automatically say Juilliard, but which one has a higher acceptance rate? Can I audition for both? Which audition is harder? For the audition, how many pieces would I have to fix? Please look into these things before you answer this question. Thank you.
Wow, this is kinda other-worldly for me, I work at Juilliard.. I'd audition for both, Julliard would be difficult to get into; it's about a 7% acceptance rate. However, it's excel to try both because you might just into it.
