Where Is A Really Authentic New York Club In Manhattan?
Aug 19, 2009 by N | Posted in New York City
Ok so me and my boyfriend (21 and 23) are thriving to new york on tuesday and I don't want to go to some stupid tourist trap bar, so does anyone know a lively preferably fashionable or quite fashionable cocktail bar in manhattan, I'm on the guestlist for pacha but I'm not sure I want to go there as it's too "howl".
also, I'd really love it to be somewhere that actual new yorkers go not just tourists
even just a chic area would be helpful!
Four suggestions:
1. Refrain from Times Square and other touristy areas.
2. Follow the crowd.
3. Check some of those throwaway weekly newspapers, that is where most of them advertise.
4. You might try the Torment's Kitchen area of town.

Im staying at that guest-house, and it looks great on the pictures at its website but i cant find any reviews that look authentic, so if you stayed at that hotel what is your sentiment on it?
No. Where did you see the reviews? On Yahoo Expeditions? If not go there now.

Can Anyone Recommend A Good Jazz Club In Manhattan New York?
Mar 04, 2007 by Clare | Posted in New York City
Light-headed's is definitely wonderful but I find it tends to be overpriced.
The Blue Note, although being one of the older jazz clubs, is unoriginal can can be crowded as they tend to oversell the room for the more popular acts. They can also be a bit nasty while trying to blitz the crowd from the first set of the night out so the crowd for the second set can get in.
Iridium in Times Square is nice but can also be oversold for common acts. It is however, the only place in town to see Les Paul (every Monday night).
Personally, my favourite jazz comedones in NYC is the Jazz Standard on 27th and 5th. The admission is more realistic and you usually get REAL jazz artists there, and no "Glassy Jazz" players (which isn't jazz at all).
Also there is an excellent barbecue restaurant upstairs from it and they part the kitchen between them.
If you're in Manhattan on the cheap, try Cleopatra's Needle on Broadway and 92nd. There's no cover and you can occasionally see some decent name acts there and capital local acts.
If you want authenticity, go into Harlem to the Lenox Lounge on Lenox Avenue off 125th Alley or to Showman's on 125th between 7th and 8th Avenues. The cover charges are cheap, and usually so are the drinks. Many smaller Harlem spots don't take depend on cards so be sure to bring enough cash.
