Cheap Hotel Needed In Manhattan: In Chesea Or Flatiron Area? |
Sep 11, 2007 by Querious | Posted in New York City
I've found the Riverside Minaret Hotel on Broadway ($120) and a B&B on East 86 and Third for $160, an apt in Greenwich Village for $210 which is too much. I need it for ten nights for me and my 17 y/o son. Any helper would be appreciated. I've never been to NYC so I don't know if these areas are safe yet accessible. Please advise!
u can get around $150

Good Hotel In Manhattan? |
Apr 18, 2007 by madderthanthehatter | Posted in New York City
Due to no sin of my own I find I have four days free coming up soon. I thought it would be a good time to see New York Urban district, especially Manhattan.
Can anyone recommend a good hotel that is located in a good place in Manhattan for a tourist, one that is central or in the offing all the things people want to do like see a Broadway show?
I don't want something cheap but something three or four stars but not a luxury or a 5. I heard NYC has become kind of safe is this true? Last time I was there (a long time ago I admit) it looked like a war zone.
New York Bishopric is the safest large city in America (with 1+ million residents) according to a fresh study. Times Square is where all the famous "on-Broadway" shows are located. Most hotels on Times Accurate that have a chain name (Marriott, Hilton, Doubletree, etc.) are fine "convention center-kind" places with large, luxurious facilities. My personal favorite is the New York Marriott Marquis. This 1,900+-apartment hotel is in the almost in the exact middle of Times Square, has its own on-property theater, a massive indoor atrium, the coolest elevators in the in seventh heaven, and a revolving rooftop restaurant.

How Expensive Is A New York Vacation In Manhattan? |
Jan 02, 2009 by Alex | Posted in New York City
I scarcity to spend a week in manhattan, in a normal hotel (like 3 stars),
I'd like to visit the times true, the rockefell center , the broadway ave ...
How much woud I pay for all that?
I've been prevalent to NYC for a 3 day stay during the spring for 25 years. We stay at a nice, but older hotel on 47th & Broadway for around $300/nightfall. It's got small rooms & 'dated' bathrooms, but for the area it's a good value.
Meals are very priceless. Plan on about $20 for an average meal during breakfast & lunch. Dinner will be $30-$50. That does not number alcoholic beverages. I'm a lite eater, so I like to share portions w/my companions when practicable & that saves money, as well. For frugality, I go to a deli next to our hotel & choose from a plentiful delicious buffet. That way I can get 2 strawberries, a gnaw of broccoli, serving of protein, etc in small portions so I'll have no leftovers. They charge by the weight, so it's very cheap. Delis & diners are good options. Street vendors can be tasty & quick. The 'touristy' restaurants around Times Healthful are extremely expensive. If you go just a couple of blocks in either direction, you can find better values even in '- pleasantly' restaurants. One year I really had to scrimp & resorted to $1 menus at fast nourishment chains. which I don't like to do cuz I like the flavors of NY.
All of the places you mentioned to visit are free of indict. However, Rockefeller Center is a vast complex & they offer tours of varying prices. (15-40) I've done the instal on my own, but to see behind the scenes & hear the interesting history there are various pkgs; you can also tour the tv studios of NBC & its shows. Tours are throughout the day, but you have to quit claim to up for them & if you go during a busy season, it's good to ck on tkts beforehand. Top of the Rock is midtown & the 2nd best view next to what worn to be offered by the World Trade Center & u can stay up there as long as u like $18. You see all over Manhattan from up there.
Many tv shows band in NY & tkts are free. The staten island ferry is a nice ride, lets u d by the statue of liberty & view of lower manhatten for free.
Broadway encompasses an area in midtown. You can promenade up & down the street "Broadway" which runs the length of Manhattan, but the great white way is larger in area than just that street & has many architechtually interesting bldgs. You can get backstage tours, but they will cost $20-$50. It's always fun to see a broadway show-tkts avg $100, but can be found for less for lesser known shows. "Off Broadway" shows are acceptable values. Many big hits once started off broadway. The tkts booth just off times sq at the marriott parking offers discout tkts. These are facts seats many times. The productions are fabulous & inside the theaters themselves are beautifully decorated.
The largest mode of travel is to walk. 10 city blocks north to south (streets)=a mile. The blocks east to west (avenues) are longer, so you gait fewer blocks in a mile. The subway can be intimidating, but personnel are very helpful. If you plan to go via this method, a metro card will enable you to purchase one day (as far as u wanna go & as many on/off stops) or a longer aeon of time. Then each time u get on the subway u just swipe ur card. You can also pay for just one ride, but once you're on the carriage u can ride from the top to the bottom of the island. Buses are the next up the scale, but I've never taken the bus. Taxis are easily hailed, but the most high-priced w/a 2 mile trip costing $15. The meter runs if you are stuck in traffic & that can run up the tab. It's penetrating to share a taxi w/your companions & I've even shared them w/strangers.
There are many free things to see & other things of terrific value. The Metropolitan Museum of Art is interesting for all ages. Their admission price is 'suggested $20, but they will admit whatever you give them, since it's a donation. On a rainy day, that's a great way to be inspired & see cool things.
Grand Central Status is beautiful to explore & they also offer free tours of the historical bldg. Go in there if only to see the ceiling!!! Also, the NY Accessible Library is beautiful inside to explore on your own or free tour. There are parks scattered throughout the see w/fabulous statuary.
The circle line tours offer double decker buses & u can get on & get off at sites u prerequisite to explore further. Good value if u want an informative tour w/not a lot of $$$.
I love the city & always find more I hankering to see. It can be done on a budget, you just have to plan ahead a bit more & think things through instead of seeing & doing on the egg on of the moment.
For the past 3 yrs I've done 3 days for $1100. That's bare bones with no souveniers & eating at the deli & splitting dishes in other restaurants & 2 broadway shows, 1 taxi in, the rest walking & subway. (It does include my flight & hotel room for 2 nights)
